ASL - Thursday, Friday


We just learned how to say Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday in ASL.

Let's keep learning the days of the week!

To say "Thursday" make the hand sign for the letter "H" and then move your hand up and down in a circle.
You can also make the hand sign for "T" and then the hand sign for "H".

To say "Friday", make the hand sign for "F" but turn it around so your palm is facing you, and move it around in a circle.

ASL - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday


We just learned in ASL how to say Her Hands are Soft

Let's learn the days of the week in ASL!

To say "Monday" you make the hand sign for the letter "M" and then keeping that hand shape turn your hand around so your palm is facing you, and move your arm around in a circle.

"Tuesday" is the same thing, but use the hand shape for the letter "T", turn your hand and wave it around.

"Wednesday" is just like Monday and Tuesday, make the hand shape for the letter "W", turn your hand and wave it around.

ASL - His face is rough


We just learned in ASL how to say Her hands are soft

Let's learn how to say His face is rough.
To say "his" you push the palm of your hand out away from you toward the right, like you are going to hi-five someone.

To say "face" you draw a circle in the air around your face.

To say "rough" you put your left hand out in front of you, palm facing up, with your fingers curled up.
Take your right hand like a claw and act like you are scraping the air above the palm of your other hand.

ASL - Her hands are soft


We just learned in ASL how to say Our table is short

Let's learn how to say Her hands are soft.
To say her, you put your flat hand in a B shape with your fingers pointed up, and push your palm out away from you and off to the right, like you are pushing someone away.

To say hands, you put your right hand up in front of you in a B shape, with your fingers pointed up and your thumb pointed toward your face.
Put your left hand in a B shape, and put your fingertips on your right forearm, with your thumb pointed toward your face.
Bring your right hand in and them circle your hands around each other, and put them back into place.

ASL - Our table is short


We just learned in ASL how to say My Food is Hot

Let's learn how to say Our table is short.
To say "our", you use your open hand, touch your chest on the left side and then make an arc out and back in to your right side.

To say "table" put your arms out in front of you, bent at the elbows, fingers pointing to your left and right, and palms facing down. Almost like you are crossing your arms in front of you, or like a genie granting a wish.
Put your right arm over your left arm, and tap your arms together twice.

To say "short" is like saying tall, but you put your hand lower.
So put your open hand out in front of you, fingers pointing forward and palm facing down.
Move your hand a little almost like you're patting someone short on the head.

ASL - Their car is tall


We just learned in ASL how to say My Food is Hot

Let's learn how to say Their car is tall.
Remember to say they, you point your finger off to the side and draw a small circle in the air.
Their is just like that, but instead of pointing your finger you wave your open hand in that area.

To say car, hold your hands in front of you in fists side by side like you are holding a steering wheel, and move them like you are turning the steering wheel left and right.

To say tall, put your right hand up by your forehead almost like a salute, and then move your hand forward and up, like you are showing how tall someone else is.

ASL - Your food is hot


We just learned in ASL how to say My Drink is Cold

Let's learn how to say Your food is hot.
To say "your", put your open hand out in front of you, almost like you are telling someone to stop.

To say "food" you point all your fingers out and put them together, almost like making a puppet hand. Then put your fingers to your mouth, almost like you're putting food into your mouth.

To say "hot" you put your hand up by your mouth, with your fingers all spread out like a claw. Then blow on your hand, and have your hand move away like you blew it away with your breath.

ASL - My drink is cold


We just learned in ASL how to say This chair is small.

To say the my drink is small in ASL you first start by putting your flat open hand on your chest "my".

After that to do the sign for drink you hold your hand out in front of you like you are holding an invisible glass, then you bring it toward your mouth and tip it, and tip your head back like you are taking a drink.

To say "cold" you put your hands into fists, and with your fists held by your body at your chest you shake them a little, almost like you are shivering.

ASL - The chair is small


We just learned in ASL how to say This house is big

Let's learn about more of the things we see every day.

To say the chair is small in ASL you first start with the sign for chair.

The sign for chair is with two hands, using your index and middle finger together, with your hands in front of you and your palms facing down, you put your right fingers over your left fingers.

To sign small, first start with two hands in fists in front of you.
Move your fists toward each other one time.

ASL - This house is big


We just learned in ASL how to say We are Surprised

Let's learn about some of the things we see every day.

To say this house is big in ASL you first start with the sign for house.
Put your flat hands out in front of you, palms facing down, fingers pointing away from you, with your hands next to each other.
Move your hands away from each other and outward, and then turn them and move them downward.
This is almost like you are drawing a shape of a square house in the air.

To say big, you put your flat hands in front of you, next to each other but not touching, palms facing left and right, facing each other, fingers pointed away from you.
Move your hands out away from each other, like you are spreading them out.

You can just make the sign for house and big, you don't need to do a sign for "this" unless you really need to say that it is different from "that" house.
If you need to do the sign for "this", you just point your finger down.

ASL - We are surprised


We've learned in ASL how to say I am happy, you are sad, he is angry, and they are excited.

Let's learn how to say We are surprised.
To say "we" you point your finger down, and draw a half circle from your right shoulder to your left shoulder.

To say "surprised" you hold your hands up like you are pinching something.
Hold them up in front of your eyes, and then pop them open into the L hand shape, and open your eyes and mouth like you are surprised when you do that.

ASL - They are excited


We've learned in ASL how to say I am happy, you are sad, and he is angry.

Let's learn how to say they are excited.
To say "they" you point you finger off to the right and draw a circle, like you're pointing out a group of people.

To say "excited" you start with your hands open, palms facing your body and your thumbs pointing up.
Take turns moving your right and left hands up and down almost like you are excited and shaking your hands.

ASL - He is angry


Last time we learned how to say You are sad in ASL.

Let's learn how to say He is angry in ASL.

To say He you just point your finger off to the right or the left, just not at the person you're talking to.

For Angry, start with your two hands open like claws, with your palms toward your chest and your thumbs pointed up.
Move your hands upward and outward, keeping your palms in until your hands are up.

Remember it's important to make sure your face is showing that you are angry, to match your hands.

ASL - You are sad


Last time we learned how to say I am happy in ASL.

Let's learn how to say You are sad in ASL.

To say You you just point your finger at someone.

For Sad, start with your two hands open and fingers spread out, hands pointed up with your palms toward your face.
Keeping your palms toward your body, move your hands downward, inward and toward each other.

Remember it's important to make sure your face is showing that you are sad, to match your hands.

ASL - I am happy


Last time we learned about the ASL words for horse, sheep and duck.

Let's learn how to say I am happy in ASL!

With your two hands open and flat, wipe your hands upward almost like you are wiping something off of your shirt.

It's also important to make sure your face is showing that you are happy, to match your hands.

ASL - Horse, Sheep, Duck


We just learned in ASL how to say dog, cat, cow, chicken and pig.
Let's learn more animals!

horse - Put your thumb up by the side of your head with your palm facing foward, and your first two fingers up almost like ears, and then wiggle them forward like a horse's ear.
sheep - Hold your left arm out in front of you across your body, and use your first two fingers of your other hand like scissors like you are cutting the wool off of the sheep.
duck - Using your thumb and your first two fingers make them like a beak opening and closing, in front of your mouth. The two fingers can be spread out a little to show that it is a big duck's beak.

ASL - Cow, Chicken, Pig


We already learned how to say dog and cat in ASL.

Now let's learn about some farm animals!

cow - With your thumb by your head, your pinky sticking out, and your other three fingers closed, wave your hand forward and back like a cow's horn.

chicken - With your right hand fingers in the G shape and your left hand flat, use your right hand like you are pecking seeds from your left hand.

pig - With your right hand under your chin and your fingers pointing to the left, wiggle your fingers.

ASL - Black, White, Brown, Gray


We just learned in ASL how to sign red, yellow, orange and green, blue, purple, pink.

Let's learn some more colors!


black - Hold up just your right pointer finger pointing to the left at your forehead, almost like a salute. Pull your arm backwards like it is drawing a black line on your forehead.

white - With your open hand, put your fingertips on your chest, and then close your fingers together with your fingers still all straight, and pull your hand out away from your chest.

brown - Using the hand shape for the letter B, put your hand up next to your face with your palm facing outward and your fingertips pointed up. Move your hand downward, keeping the pointer finger by your face.

gray - With both hands open, arms out and your palms facing toward your chest and your thumbs pointed up, move your hands back and forth, alternating either hand. So when your right hand is going forward, your left hand is going backward.

ASL - Green, Blue, Purple, Pink

We just the ASL signs for red, orange and yellow.

Let's learn more colors!

green - Make the hand sign for the letter G, and twist your hand back and forth.

blue - Make the hand sign for the letter B, and twist your hand back and forth.

purple - Make the hand sign for the letter P, and twist your hand back and forth.

pink - Make the hand sign for the letter P, and put your tall finger up to your chin and pull it down, sort of like the sign for red, but using your tall finger.

ASL - Red, Orange, Yellow

We just learned about the alphabet in ASL.

Now let's learn some colors!

red - Hold up your pointer finger in front of your chin below your mouth, and pull it down two times, almost like you are scratching your chin.

orange - Hold your hand out like a fist in front of and below your mouth, and squeeze it two times, almost like you are squeezing a bottle of orange juice into your mouth.

yellow - Hold up your hand in the finger spelling sign for "Y" and spin your hand two times.
