Norwegian - You are sad


We just learned that in Norwegian I am happy is jeg er glad.

Now let's learn how to say You are sad.

Du er lei deg

This really means something like "You are sad you", but that's how you say it!

You - Du - sounds like doo
are - er - sounds like ah-r
sad - lei deg - Sounds like lah-ee dah-ee

So all together du er lei deg sounds like Doo ah-r lah-ee dah-ee.

Norwegian - I am happy


Last time we learned that the Norwegian words for horse, sheep and duck are hest, sau, and and.

Let's learn how to say I am happy in Norwegian!

We can break it up into two words:

I - jeg - sounds like yah-ee
am - er - sounds like ah-r
happy - glad - sounds like g-lah

Together jeg er glad sounds like yah-ee ah-r g-lah

Norwegian - Horse, sheep, duck


We know that in Norwegian, dog is hund and cat is katt,
cow is ku, chicken is kylling, and pig is gris.

Let's learn more animals!

Also in Norwegian sheep say bae, and ducks say kvakk-kvakk.

Norwegian Alphabet

We just learned how to Count to ten in Norwegian.

The Norwegian alphabet is just like the English one, except for three extra letters:

Æ, - sounds like the a in the word "bad".
Ø - sounds like the i in the word "bird".
Å - sounds like the aw in the word "yawn".

We just learned that to ask if someone speaks Norwegian you say Kan du norsk?.

To say dog in Norwegian, you say hund and it sounds like hoo-un-d  

To say cat in Norwegian, you say katt and it sounds like kah-t

Remember that to say please or you're welcome in Norwegian, you say Vær så snill, Værsågod.

To ask if someone speaks Norwegian, you say Kan du norsk?.

To say yes you would say Ja which sounds like yah  

or to say no you would say Nei which sounds like nay-ee

Remember that to say thank you in Norwegian, you say takk.

To say please in Norweian is Vær så snill - vah-r-sah-snee-l.

And to say you're welcome, you say Værsågod - vah-r-sah-goo-d.
