Sint Eustatius


We just learned about the country of Bermuda

Let's learn a little about the country of Sint Eustatius!

This country is in the Caribbean, north of South America, next to other Caribbean islands.
It is about 21 square kilometers, and about 3,000 people live there.
The people in this country speak either English or Dutch.

The flag of Sint Eustatius is blue, with red lines and a white diamond in the middle, and on the white diamond is a yellow star and a green picture of the island.
Blue is for the ocean, red is for the delonix regia tree, the diamond is for a diamond waterfall on the island, and the yellow star is for unity.

Visiting this country you might go see the big volcano called The Quill.
It is 601 meters high, and the name comes from the Dutch word kuil which means hole, because it has a volcanic crater in the middle, with a rainforest full of tropical trees and plants.

There is a type of tree that grows in the area called the Delonix Regia that blooms in bright red colors.
When the slaves were freed on the island, they used this tree as a symbol of freedom.

Bermuda


We just learned about the country of Saint Martin

Let's learn a little about the country of Bermuda!

This country is in the Caribbean Sea, east of the United States.

It is made up of over 180 islands, it makes up about 53 square kilometers, and about 63,000 people live there.
The people in this country speak mostly English, and some Portuguese.

Saint Martin


We just learned about the country of Anguilla

Let's learn a little about the country of Saint Martin!

This is an island in the Caribbean, just east of Puerto Rico.
It is about 87 square kilometers, and about 73,000 people live there.
The people in this country speak English, French and Dutch.

This island is actually divided into two parts. One that is called Saint-Martin and is owned by France, and the other is called Sint Maarten and is owned by the Netherlands.

The flag of Saint-Martin is the same as the flag for France.
The flag of Sint Maarten is a white triangle on the left, then stripes of red and blue on the right.
The red is for the blood of the people, the blue is for the sea and sky, and the white has the coat of arms for the country in the middle.

Saint Pierre and Miquelon

Let's learn a little about the country of Saint Pierre and Miquelon!

This country is in the northern Atlantic ocean, just east of Canada.
It is about 242 square kilometers, and about 6,000 people live there.
The people in this country speak French.

The flag of Saint Pierre and Miquelon is either the flag of France, or a special flag made just for the islands.
The special flag is a yellow ship called the Grande Hermine sailing on a blue sea. This was the French ship that discovered the island.
On the left are the flags of three countries that have ruled over the island: Basques, Bretons, and Normans.

This country is in the Caribbean Sea, just north of South America.

Papiamentu is a language made up of a mixture of Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch.
The country is a land owned by the Netherlands, and it is made up of one main island and then a smaller one called Klein Curaçao.
