Portuguese Water Dog

We just learned about the type of dog the beagle.

Another type of dog is the Portuguese Water Dog.
Just like you'd think with a name like that, these dogs love the water.

This type of dog was used long ago to help with ships and with fishmen.
They could herd fish into nets, go out in the water to help get broken nets or fishing tools that fell in the water.
They also were used to carry things from one ship to another, swimming through the water.

Inferior Venae Cavae

We just learned that the iliac veins bring deoxygenated blood from the pelvis area back toward the heart.

Next the blood goes into a large vein called the inferior venae cavae.
This vein goes all the way up to the heart and drops off the deoxygenated blood.

Washington D.C. is a part of the US called a district.
It is the capitol city of the USA.
The district's motto is Justitia Omnibus which means Justice for All.

The letters D.C. stand for District of Columbia. It was called that because when the US wanted to make a capitol, Christopher Columbus was very popular, so they named the capitol after him.

Washington D.C. is in the eastern part of the US, right by Maryland and Virginia.

Paul's Letter to the Colossians

We just learned about Paul's letter to the church in Philippi

Another letter Paul wrote was to a church in a town called Colossae which is now a part of the country of Turkey.

The people in Colossae had started to do things in their church that were against God's rules, so Paul wrote them to teach them the right way to act in their churches.

Colossians chapter 3 verses 1-4 is:

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your[a] life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

Woman in Blue - Léger

We just learned about the famous work of art Fruit Dish on a Checkered Tablecloth - GrisHouses at L'Estaque by French painter Georges Braque.

Another famous work of art is the painting Woman in Blue by French painter Fernand Léger.

Léger's painting is a part of the Cubism style of Abstract Art.
In his style, he sometimes used lots of shaded shapes that looked like tubes. So some artists nicknamed his style tubism instead of cubism.

In his painting Woman in Blue, he used shapes to try and make a different picture of a woman using interesting shapes.
