Freyella Elegans


We just learned about the Nepanthia Belcheri.

Another type of starfish is the Freyella Elegans.

This is a type of starfish that lives in very deep sea, at around 10,000 ft deep in the Atlantic ocean.

Their arms grow to about 8 inches long.

Irises - Van Gogh


We just learned about Van Gogh's painting of Trees and Undergrowth.

Another of Van Gogh's paintings is of Irises.

He painted this when he was at the Saint-Paul Asylum, where he made lots of paintings of flowers.

Van Gogh liked to paint a lot and he thought it helped make him feel better.

He called it "the lightning conductor for my illness"

Let's learn a little about the city of Istanbul, Turkey!

This city is in Turkey.
It is about 2,500 square kilometers, and about 15 million people live there.

Trees and Undergrowth - Van Gogh


We just learned about the painting Pine Trees and Dandelions in the Garden of Saint-Paul Hospital.

Another of Van Gogh's paintings is Trees and Undergrowth, from 1887.

During his time at the Saint Remy, Van Gogh made some paintings of the outdoors, that were called sous-bois which is French for undergrowth.
This style of painting was used by a lot of other impressionists, and Van Gogh was making paintings in their style.

Red Knobbed Sea Star


We just learned about the Magnificent Star.

Another kind of starfish is the Red Knobbed Sea Star, also called the protoreaster lincki, red spine star, or African sea star.

These starfish grow to be about 12 inches, and has bright re tubercles sticking up.
They have gray bodies with red stripes, and a big central disk.

The only place to find these starfish is in the Indian Ocean, in sandy or muddy sea beds.

We just learned about the Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT).

Another thing about sleep is Narcolepsy a type of sleep disorder.

In TV and movies this disorder is shown as people just instantly falling asleep.

But in real life it is a little different. People with this disorder might collapse where their whole body stops working, but they are actually still awake, they just can't move.

We just learned about the painting Trees in the Garden in Front of the Entrance to Saint-Paul Hospital.

Another of Van Gogh's paintings is Pine Trees and Dandelions in the Garden of Saint-Paul Hospital.

Van Gogh was in the hospital for a long time, even through the winter.
So when the garden was not green and fresh, he painted the pine trees that were still green.

Jacob and Esau


We just learned about the Isaac and Rebekah.

Another part of the Bible is Jacob and Esau, from Genesis 25 to 33.

After Isaac and Rebekah got married, they had twin sons named Jacob and Esau.
Isaac really liked that Esau was a hunter and liked to go out into the country.
Rebekah really liked that Jacob stayed at home and work in the tents.

Jacob and Esau did not get along very well, after Jacob stole special blessings from their dad Isaac.
When they grew up, Jacob moved away from Esau because he was scared that Esau would hurt him.
Later on Esau met up with Jacob and they became friends again.

We just learned about the Van Gogh painting A Corner of Saint-Paul Hospital and the Garden with a Heavy, Sawed-Off Tree.

Another of Van Gogh's famous paintings is Trees in the Garden in Front of the Entrance to Saint-Paul Hospital.

Van Gogh always loved gardens and felt that they had a special healing power.

When he was at the hospital, he looked at the garden many times and made paintings of the flowers and trees.
