Connecting Tubule

We just learned about the Distal Convoluted Tubule.

We've learned a lot about the renal tubule part of the nephron in the kidney that helps clean up the blood.

Another part of the renal tubule is the Connecting Tubule, also called the CNT, junctional tubule, or arcuate renal tubule.

This is the last part of the renale tubule, and helps control the amount of water and sodium in the blood.

Let's learn a little about the country of Ecuador!

This country is in South America, and borders Colombia, Peru, and the Pacific Ocean.

The people in this country speak mostly Spanish.

(from: wikipedia - ecuador)

The flag of Ecuador is yellow, blue and red with the coat of arms in the middle.
Yellow is for the crops growing, blue is for the sea and sky, and red is for the blood of the people who fought for freedom.
The coat of arms has a lot of things on it, like a condor on top, the zodiac signs for March, April, May and June, the mountain Chimorazo, a steamboat on a river, palm and laurel branches.

To eat in this country you might have fanesca, which is a soup made of gourd, pumpkin, beans, and grains cooked in milk.

(from: wikipedia - fanesca)

Visiting this country you might go see Ingapirca, an ancient temple built long ago by the Incan people.

(from: wikipedia - ingapirca)

There is a mountain in Ecuador called Chimborazo, which is the point on the earth farthest from the center of the earth.
It isn't the tallest mountain from sea level, but the earth is wider at the equator and this mountain is by the equator so it is the farthest from the middle.

We just learned about Asher from the Twelve Tribes of Israel.

Another of the tribes was Manessah.

Manessah was the grandson of Jacob, and his father was Joseph.
Joseph liked Manessah so much that he treated him like one of his other sons, not just a grandson.

The Courtesan (after Eisen) - Van Gogh

We just learned about Van Gogh's painting Still Life with Straw Hat.

Another of Van Gogh's paintings is The Courtesan (after Eisen) made in 1885.

For a while Van Gogh got really interested in art from Japan, and started trying to copy it and make some of his own painting in Japanese style. He called the paintings Japonaiserie, which means like Japanesery.

The most famous of his paintings was the Courtesan, that he made after copying a magazine cover that had the same person on the front cover.

Fluid Catalytic Cracking

We just learned about the Catalytic Reforming.

Another part of refining oil is called Fluid Catalytic Cracking.

This is a way that some of the heavy crude oils get turned into gasoline or other petroleum things by boiling and cooling the oil, mixing it with other chemicals, and separating out the parts it wants to keep.

Long-Tailed Weasel

We just learned about the Haida Ermine.

Another animal in the same family is the Long-Tailed Weasel also called the bridled weasel, masked ermine, big stoat, or Neogale frenata.

These animals live in North and South America, weigh about 9 ounces and are about one foot long.

They grow a brown coat in the summer, and it turns white in the winter.

These weasels give off a strong smell to leave a mark in places sometimes, by dragging their smelly body across rocks or other things.
