Diesel Fuel

We just learned about Gasoline.

Another thing made from oil is Diesel Fuel.

Just like gasoline, diesel fuel can be used in cars and motors to make things go.
The big difference between gasoline and diesel is that diesel is thicker, and more like crude oil.

Gasoline is more easy to start on fire, so gasoline engines use a spark to light up the fuel,
but diesel engines use pressure to cause heat and make the diesel start on fire and run the engine.

Ringtail

We just learned about the Raccoon.

Another animal in the same family is the Ringtail, also called ringtail cat, miner's cat, civet cat, mountain cat, cat squirrel, Pacific cat, band-tailed cat, raccoon fox, night monkey, cacomistle or bassariscus astutus.

These animals grow to be about 35 centimeters, and weigh about 1 kilogram.
Some people have kept these ringtails as pets, which is where it gets the nickname miner's cat because it was kept by miners who were exploring the west.

We know renal means something to do with the kidneys.
Hilum means something that sticks in like an indentation.
On the side of the kidneys, the part where oval shaped kidney sticks in a little is called the Renal Hilum.

Portrait of Père Tanguy - Van Gogh

We just learned about Van Gogh's painting The Courtesan (after Eisen).

Another of his paintings was the Portrait of Père Tanguy, painted in 1887.

When Van Gogh moved from the Netherlands to France, he lived in Paris where he got to see a lot of different styles of paintings.
One of the art dealers that worked there was named Julien Tanguy. He was such a friendly person that people called him Pere Tanguy which means Father Tanguy.

Van Gogh made three different paintings of Tanguy, and his style changed a lot between each painting as he started to learn different types of art in Paris.

The first painting is mostly brown with just a little bit of color, making him look like a worker.
The second painting has a lot more colors, and other paintings in the background.
The third painting shows some of the impressionist and Japanese styles that he was learning in Paris.

Gasoline

We just learned about the Fluid Catalytic Cracking.

Turning oil from the ground into something we an use takes a lot of work and uses a lot of heating, cooling and mixing with chemicals.
When it is all done, there are a lot of things that oil is used for.

One of the most well known things we make from oil is Gasoline.

This is the fuel used for cars, airplanes, lawnmowers or any kind of a motor that burns gas.

Burning gasoline for fuel causes a lot of pollution, so there are a lot of people making electric cars to help make that better!

Raccoon

We just learned about the Long-Tailed Weasel.

Another animal that is like the weasels is the Raccoon.

Raccoons are part of the procyonid family, which is like a cousin to the mustelid family of the other weasels.

They are usually about 60 centimeters long, and weigh about 20 kilograms.
These animals live in North America, with another type of raccoon also living in South America.

Raccoons are well known for having a black mask across their eyes, and a ringed tail.
The name raccoon came from the Powhatan word meaning "animal that scratches with its hands.

One interesting thing about raccoons is that they are very good with their hands, and can even open some doors and locks that are meant to keep other critters out.
