Leonardo da Vinci

We just learned about the Statue of Jimmy Carter by Frederick Hart.

We've learned about sculpture and art from all over the world!
Let's learn a little more about some of the most famous artists in history.

One of the most famous artists ever was Leonardo da Vinci.

His full name was "Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci".
His father's name was Ser Piero, and he was born in the town of Vinci in 1452.
So his name really means Leonardo, son of Ser Piero, from Vinci.

He grew up in this small town near Florence Italy with 12 brothers and sisters, and without a lot of money.
When he was about 14 years old he moved to Florence and got a job as a student in an art studio.

He was working for a famous artist named Andrea del Verrocchio, and he worked with other famous artists like Donatello, Ghirlandaio, Perugino, Botticelli, and Lorenzo di Credi.
While he was studying there he learned about all kinds of science, not just about working with paint and sculptures.

The first painting that we know was made by Leonardo da Vinci is a drawing of the Arno Valley in 1473.

Lug Nut

We just learned about the Rims.

Another part of a car is the Lug Nut or wheel nut.

The lug nuts are what hold the rims onto the car.
If you need to replace a tire or work on the car brakes or the axle, you start by lifting up your car with something called a jack, and then removing the lug nuts using a tool called a lug nut.

Common Marmoset

We just learned about the Proboscis Monkey.

We've learned about 19 of the 138 types of Old World Monkeys.
Let's learn about some of the 154 types of New World Monkeys!

One type of New World Monkey is the Common Marmoset also called callithrix jacchus.

These monkeys are very small, only about 7 inches tall and weighing less than 1 pound.
Their fur can be lots of different colors, like brown, grey or yellow.
On their heads they have white ear tufts that stick out making them look like they have big white poofy ears.

Marmosets live in South America, and eat mostly just insects and the gooey things inside of trees like sap.
They have tiny claws and teeth, so they will dig on a tree to get the sap and then eat it up.

There are lots of different faces these monkeys make to talk to each other, like holding their mouth open, frowning, staring or flattening their ear tufts.
They make high or low chirping or whistle sounds to send different messages.

Earlobe

We just learned about the Tragus.

On the outer ear we know about:
- The auricle or pinna, which is the main outside part of the ear
- The helix, which is the folded over part around the outside
- The antihelix, which is the Y shaped bump that sticks out
- The antitragus, which is the bump pointing up that is connected to the earlobe
- The tragus, which is the part closest to the cheek that sticks out

Another part of the ear is the Earlobe, also called the lobulus auriculae.

This is the soft part of the ear that hangs down at the bottom.
Some people have earlobes that are loose, and other people have earlobes that are touching the side of their face and aren't loose.
