Annunciation - Leonardo da Vinci

We just learned a little about the early life of Leonardo da Vinci.

Another famous work of art was the painting Annunciation by Leonardo da Vinci made in 1475 in Italy.

By the time Leonardo turned 20, he had his own place to make art, and was working with some other famous artists of the time in Florence, Italy.
He learned about art and science working in Florence for 10 years until he was 30.
People say that paintings from this time are from his "First Florentine Period".

Annunciation is an oil painting made on wood, that is about 3 feet tall and 8 feet wide.
The painting is about the Bible story in Luke chapter 1 where the angel Gabriel tells Mary she is going to be Jesus' mother.

We just learned about the Lug Nut.

Another part of a car is the Rotor, also called the disc.

When the car needs to stop, the rotor is a disc shaped part of the wheel that is spinning around, and the car has brakes that clamp down hard onto the rotors to make it stop spinning and the car slows down and stops.

Cotton-Top Tamarin

We just learned about the Common Marmoset.

Another type of New World Monkey is the Cotton-Top Tamarin, also called the saguinus oedipus.

This is a very small monkey that lives in Columbia.
It grows to about 10 inches long, and weighs about 1 pound.

Just like you would think from the name, these monkeys have white fluffy hair on their head.
They mostly eat bugs, fruits, and the liquid that comes off of trees like sap.
These monkeys do a lot of talking, and can make over 30 different types of whistles and chirps to talk to other monkeys.
Sometimes they might be telling the other monkeys that they want some food, or other times they might be warning everyone of danger.

There are a lot of these monkeys being kept as pets, but there are only about 6,000 cotton top tamarins left in the wild.

The flag of Mongolia is three vertical stripes of red, blue, and red, with the yellow Soyombo on the left stripe.

For a meal in Mongolia you might have khorkhog, which is a kind of meat stew made from lamb.
To make khorkhog, you take some rocks and put them in a fire to get them very hot. Then you take the rocks out and put them into a metal jug with some meat and water and close it up. After the meat is cooked by the hot rocks, the meat is handed out to everyone, and they also usually hand out the rocks for good health.

Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing

We just learned about the famous hymn How Firm a Foundation.

Another famous hymn is Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing written by Robert Robison in England in 1757.

Robinson was born in 1735 in England.
He had a tough time as a kid, after his father died when he was little.
His uncle paid for him to go to school, and when he was 14 he moved to London to go get a job.
He later moved to Cambridge where he became a Pastor and had a big family with 12 kids.

The hymn Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing was about the book of 1 Samuel chapter 7, when God helped protect his people from others who wanted to hurt them.

The music for the hymn is called "Nettleton" and people think it was written by the famous music writer Asahel Nettleton.
